| SCE Finds a Niche with its Rapid Site Characterization Vehicle (RSCV) |

The SCE team can deploy its Cone Penetrometer Testing Rig (CPT) to platform with state-of-the-art sensor technology and a suite of tools to perform rapid site characterization across the United States. CPT surpasses conventional drilling and sampling methods and eliminates much of the subjectivity of conventional investigative techniques. The CPT is capable of differentiating soil types, measuring in-situ soil density, or collecting samples at 3 times the rate of a typical drilling rig, at a similar daily rate. Additionally, a suite of tools can be on board the CPT to determine in-situ environmental data, “real time”. This vehicle is compliant with the new USEPA TRIAD approach for site characterization. Currently, the SCE CPT is working on several sinkhole and geotechnical projects in the Lehigh Valley as well as the Lancaster area. The CPT is quickly becoming the “tool of choice” for Sinkhole Investigation.
